Why choose an electronic ballast?
Electronic ballasts are more efficient and quieter than traditional electromagnetic ballasts.
They also emit less heat and the "soft start" results in longer life for HPS bulbs.

While a traditional ballast needs an initial tip of 680/700 watts to turn on a 600-watt HPS bulb, an electronic ballast only needs 600/620 watts.

Electronic ballasts light up by sending a low level of power to the bulb and slowly increasing it. Within minutes, they make the bulb reach full power without injury.
This procedure is called a SMART START and is used to minimize damage to the bulb by extending its "PAR life," i.e., the period during which the ratio of consumption to PAR emissions (the light actually used by the installation) reaches maximum efficiency.

After one year of use, PAR emission from an electronic ballast decreases by 20-25%, while it will decay by about 50-60% on a traditional ballast.

Flicker (very rapid fluctuations in light emission) sometimes noticeable even to the naked eye, which occurs with a traditional ballast, is absolutely absent with electronics, and this also translates into higher efficiency.
